AGRO ILAM

Cultivating hope

ABOUT US

Agro Ilam was founded in 2018, at a time when many people were leaving the country. While this trend continued, our founder, Mr. Yam Karki, made the decision to return to his hometown and work in agriculture.

We are an agricultural enterprise that works closely with our farmer partners and takes responsibility for bringing their products to market with transparency. We support farmers through practical training, access to crops and inputs, and shared learning based on local conditions. Agro Ilam is built together with farmers and follows a community-based farming approach, where production and growth happen through long-term collaboration rather than individual effort. Today, Agro Ilam connects 700+ farming families and works across products including coffee, turmeric, moringa, and dairy. Our work is driven by the belief that farmers’ efforts deserve fair value and wider reach, and that locally produced goods can find their place in national and international markets.

OUR PRODUCTS

Meet the Founder, Mr. Yam Karki

Yam Karki founded Agro Ilam in 2018 after returning to his hometown of Gajurmukhi, Ilam, following several years of teaching in Kathmandu. At the time, many families in the area were dependent on foreign employment, and farming was steadily losing its role as a reliable source of income. He returned with the intention of rebuilding confidence in agriculture by creating local opportunities that could support livelihoods within the village. He began with Boer goat farming, working directly with local families and introducing improved livestock practices. As trust grew and participation increased, farming activity in the area began to expand. In the following years, coffee farming was introduced as part of a more sustainable and long-term approach to agriculture. Farmers were supported with practical training and encouraged to plant coffee with a commitment that their produce would reach the market. Over time, more farmers joined. What started with a small number of families gradually developed into a wider network of producers working across coffee and other agricultural products. Agro Ilam took responsibility for coordination, quality oversight, and market access, allowing farmers to focus on production while having confidence in where their products would go. Today, Agro Ilam connects more than 700 farming families across the Mangsebung area. The work is centered on strengthening livelihoods, restoring trust in farming, and ensuring that the effort of rural communities is recognized and rewarded through fair and transparent market access.
